dropful

Questions

Does uploading need an app?

No. Scan the QR code or open the link and upload right in the browser, on older phones too.

How large may files be?

There is no server-side limit per file. On older devices a file may be up to 5 GB. All files together must fit into the storage you booked.

Why not WhatsApp, email or a cloud?

Chat apps shrink photos and videos and show them to everyone in the group. Email usually accepts only 10 to 25 MB per message. A shared cloud folder needs your own account with limited storage, uploaders often need one too and frequently see what others uploaded. With dropful everyone uploads without an app or an account, in full quality, and only you see the files. When the term ends everything is deleted, without you having to tidy up.

What is the problem with US providers?

Companies based in the USA must hand data to US authorities under the CLOUD Act, even when it is stored in Europe. Under FISA Section 702, US intelligence services can access data of people outside the USA held by these providers. For photos of children, customer data or tips that is a risk. dropful is run from Germany and stores data exclusively with Hetzner in Germany and Finland, without advertising and without analysing your files.

Can uploaders add a message?

Yes, once you switch on the message field in the collection settings. Everyone can then describe their files or send just a message. You read the messages on the page of the collection.

What does end-to-end encryption mean?

With package L and in a subscription you can encrypt a collection end to end. The sender's phone or computer then encrypts every file, its name and every message before anything reaches dropful. You open the files only with your private key in the download tool. Your browser creates the key, dropful never sees it. Without it the data cannot be decrypted, not even by dropful. Uploading then needs JavaScript and an up-to-date browser, and there is no live wall.

Who can see the files?

Only whoever manages the collection. There is no gallery and no public link.

What happens when the term ends?

The collection stops accepting files and all files are deleted. Collect them before.

How do I get the files?

Download each file in your account. A download tool is offered for large collections.

How do I pay?

On invoice. After creating the collection you see the amount, the IBAN and a QR code for your banking app and transfer the amount. Uploading works right away, downloading once the payment has arrived.

Where is the data stored?

In Germany and Finland, so exclusively within the EU.
